Roof Repair in the Columbus Area

Depending on the roofing material and the pitch of your roof, it is probably not a good idea for the average homeowner or business person to attempt the roofing repair work. Even though the average roof repair is not always hard work, it does need an understanding of how the various materials work and how they interact with the other items on roofs such as ventilation openings, skylights, plumbing pipes etc.

Repairing a roof is not only a difficult task, but can be quite dangerous too! Typical repairs usually result from one of the following:

  • Wind - Roofs are not designed to handle hurricane or tornado force winds. Even moderately powerful winds of 50-80 mph can damage the roof.
  • Lack of Maintenance - If minor roof problems and deterioration are not taken care of at an early stage, they can snowball into a major repair.
  • Nature - Everything from hail to air pollutants can damage a roof over time. It's also common for organic materials to deteriorate quicker than non-organic materials.
  • Poor Design - This is a very expensive repair, typically involving roof replacement. Damage is incurred when improper design results in weak roofs, especially when poor materials are used.

It is always advisable to call the experts at Ohio Exteriors when it comes to roof repair questions and concerns. Tthere are some precautions you can take if immediate action is necessary.

Please note, none of these should be attempted on medium- to steep-sloped roofs. If the roof itself is damaged and in need of repair, or the structural integrity is in question, it could be extremely dangerous to go on the roof. Please leave that to the professionals!

  • Contain any Interior Leaks - Use tubs, plastic film, anything to safeguard the interior of your house from water damage.
  • Remove Exterior water build-up - If the gutters are clogged and/or drains are not operating at optimal levels, clean them out and clear away excess debris.
  • Locate the source - If possible, find out where the water is getting into the house. If it is a challenget to determine the source, then call us immediately at (614) 372-7459
If you can find the source of the leak, use either sealant and roof tape, or duct tape to minimize leakage until a professional can permanently correct the problem.
